Rebus Film Production S.A.R.L. / L.L.C. is based in Beirut, Lebanon. Between 2001 and 2006 we produced documentaries and video content for television networks. Rebus was commissioned throughout the Middle East, including Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Syria, and Lebanon. During this period we also produced documentaries by independent filmmakers with projects in the region, including Vatche Boulghourjian's experimental documentary Noble Sacrifice(Official Selection IDFA, Official Selection Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, and Winner of the John Grierson Prize at the Pennsylvania Film Festival), excerpts of which will be included in an upcoming film directed by Nina Menkes and executive produced by Gus Van Sant. In 2006, Rebus Film Production shifted its emphasis to producing fiction films and has since then produced several short and medium-length films in New York and Beirut. Fifth Column received a production grant from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and premiered at the Cannes Film Festival (Official Selection, Cinfondation, 2010) where it was awarded Third Prize. The film screened at over 20 festivals worldwide and won numerous awards including the Lebanese Film Festival (1st Prize, Best Film), the Abu Dhabi Film Festival (1st Prize, Best Student Short), Emir Kusturica's Kustendorf Film Festival (Press Award), the San Sebastian Film Festival, the Doha Tribeca Film Festival, the Guanajuato International Film Festival, and the Oberhausen International Short Film Festival. Rebus Film Production currently focuses on producing experimental works and feature-length films in Lebanon and beyond, and has several projects in development, including Tramontane, supported by the Venice Biennale's Biennale College Cinema and the Doha Film Institute. Rebus Film Production champions films that communicate complex political and social subject matter, reflect bold authorial craftsmanship, and possess the empathy that can translate across borders and languages.
