CEMIC was originally incorporated in 1982 as Comprehensive Ensurers Market Syndicate, Inc., which commenced business as a syndicate on the Illinois Insurance Exchange (now INEX). In 1997, the company withdrew from the INEX and reorganized as Comprehensive Ensurers Market Insurance Company, Inc., an Illinois Property and Casualty insurance company. In 2002, the company changed its name to CEM Insurance Company. CEMIC is a Property and Casualty carrier writing specialized commercial insurance and reinsurance coverages. The company works with Managing General Agents and Underwriting Managers to offer new and alternative markets for specialty programs. The company is licensed in 15 jurisdictions and continues to seek licensing in additional states as needed to expand its product offerings. CEMIC reviews and will consider insurance program opportunities where larger carriers may be uninterested due to the program's size and limited growth potential.
