The Park Forum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that seeks to promote Bible engagement in the urban church. Each weekday we provide devotional reflection on daily Bible readings in 400 words or less. We will read two chapters per day, and cover the entire New Testament, the Psalms, as well as the first half of the Old Testament. Because devotionals are published on weekdays, Friday's devotional includes weekend readings. This year we're reading and listening to the New International Version of the Bible. Since our founding in 2009 we've read through the entire Bible three times in the English Standard Version. In late 2013 Max McLean, one of our readers and the vocal artist in both the ESV and NIV Listener's Bibles, encouraged us to try the NIV for 2015/16. Never before have Christians had so many translations to choose from, yet most of us settle in to what we're comfortable with. Varying the translation we read can open up even the most familiar Scriptures, giving fresh perspective and awakening our minds (which get stuck in ruts) as we contemplate, pray, and respond. The Scripture Reading Plan follows a modified version of the reading plan created by Scottish minister Robert Murray M'Cheyne (1813-1843), which has been recommended by Ravi Zacharias, Charles Spurgeon, and John Stott. Our version cuts his plan in half so that busy urbanites can keep up while balancing their vocational calling.
